Barcelona dealt injury setback ahead of Alavés

La Liga champions Barcelona have this week been dealt some fresh disappointing news on the personnel front. This comes amid the understanding that Jules Koundé is considered as all but ruled out of the club’s upcoming meeting with Deportivo Alavés.

Barcelona of course find themselves in the thick of something of a defensive injury crisis at present.

After all of Andreas Christensen, Eric García and the aforementioned Koundé were sidelined with respective issues, youngster Xavi Espart was struck down with a long-term ankle blow of his own this past weekend.

Hansi Flick and his staff had at least been comforted in the hope that Koundé would recover in time to play his part in the Blaugrana’s next outing, a La Liga meeting with Deportivo Alavés this weekend.

But if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then this will in fact not be the case. As per a report from Diario AS:

‘Jules Koundé is virtually ruled out for Saturday’s match against Alavés. The French international has yet to fully recover from the ankle sprain he suffered a week and a half ago against Betis.’
