Barcelona chief provides update on Lionel Messi’s potential return

Barcelona sporting director Deco has this week spoken out on the possibility of Lionel Messi linking back up with the club.

The Portuguese’s comments, though, suggest that as things stand such a move is not on the agenda.

The subject of a potential Barcelona-Messi reunion has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last few weeks.

This comes after the Argentine surprised the masses, in paying an unscheduled visit to the newly-renovated Spotify Camp Nou.

Amid suggestions of the long-standing tension between Messi and Blaugrana president Joan Laporta easing, it has in turn been reported that the veteran attacker could rejoin the club from Inter Miami on a short-term basis.

Speaking during an interview with Cadena SER this week, the subject of Messi’s potential comeback was therefore put to Barca transfer chief Deco.

And the former midfielder, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, went on to explain:

“Leo Messi on short term loan? I don’t think that’s possible. Leo has a contract. I don’t think it’s ever been brought up… Messi is always Messi, he can always offer something; but it’s not something we’ll talk about right now.”
