Barcelona chief Deco hints at sales: ‘Sometimes…’

Barcelona sporting director Deco has admitted that he and his staff will likely be left with no choice but to sanction unwanted sales in the not-so-distant future.

This comes as the Blaugrana continue in efforts towards easing their long-term financial woes.

Deco sat down for an interview with English outlet The Times this week, during which he was drawn on a whole host of topics surrounding developments in Catalunya’s capital.

One such question saw the Portuguese asked whether Barcelona are planning any imminent player sales.

And though he was keen to make clear that the general idea is ‘not to sell’, Deco also admitted that in some cases, he and the Camp Nou brass are left with little choice.

As cited by Marca, the former Blaugrana midfielder explained:

“Our main idea is not to sell players; Barcelona isn’t a club that likes to do that. But, of course, we have to improve in that area, because sometimes it’s also necessary to sell players. To sell young players, you need control. You have to be attentive to when their contracts end. You have to plan for their future.”
