Barcelona president Joan Laporta has already begun openly discussing his plan to bring in a leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid next summer.
That’s according to Carrusel Deportivo of Cadena SER, who point towards Julián Alvarez as the player in question.
The name of frontman Alvarez has of course proven an increasingly prominent one in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over recent weeks.
This comes amid mounting speculation that Barcelona have earmarked the Argentine as a leading future transfer target.
Ahead of the expiration of Robert Lewandowski’s contract in the summer of 2026, Deco and co. have already kicked into gear a search for the Pole’s long-term replacement.
And according to several sources, at the very top of the wishlist at the Camp Nou is the aforementioned Alvarez.
So much so that Joan Laporta, it is claimed, has already begun pushing the former Manchester City’s name in internal discussions.
As per a report from Carrusel Deportivo:
‘(Journalist) Sique Rodríguez says that Laporta is already openly talking about Julián Alvarez for Barça. The idea is to sign him next year when Lewandowski leaves the club.’
