Barcelona sporting director Deco has revealed that the club made it to the point of ‘advanced’ negotiations with German international Jonathan Tah.
This came prior to the defender ultimately putting pen to paper on terms with Bayern Munich.
Tah was of course hotly tipped for a move to Spain with Barcelona last year, amid efforts on the part of the Camp Nou brass to secure reinforcements at the back.
Ahead of the expiration of his contract terms with Bayer Leverkusen, the 30-year-old seriously considered linking up with fellow countryman Hansi Flick in Catalunya’s capital.
And speaking to the media this week, Barca chief Deco provided an insight into just how close the transfer came to completion.
Speaking during an interview with Diario Sport, Deco admitted:
“A transfer that was close but fell through? We were in very advanced negotiations to sign Jonathan Tah, but the agreement collapsed at the end and he joined Bayern.”
