Barcelona boss Xavi provides encouraging Pedri injury update

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández this afternoon provided an update on the wellbeing of midfield star Pedri.

And the news will no doubt be met with a collective sigh of relief on the part of the Barcelona faithful.

Pedri, for his part, has of course seen his name take its place back front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital across the week to date.

This comes after the 21-year-old suffered the latest fitness setback in his fledgling career.

Featuring from the off in Barcelona’s La Liga meeting with Athletic Club on Sunday, Pedri lasted just 45 minutes, before being forced to limp out of proceedings with a thigh problem.

Initial reports pointed towards the Spanish international being in line for a spell of five to six weeks on the sidelines.

Ensuing media speculation, though, varied widely, with some having pointed towards Pedri likely sitting out the remainder of the season, and others a comeback timeline of just four weeks.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his midfield starlet’s situation was put to the aforementioned Xavi.

And, after first moving to reassure Pedri, Barca’s headmaster went on to confirm that his latest injury is ‘not as serious as first thought’:

“Pedri’s injury is a factor that we cannot control. I am very positive, I always tell him that it is the last one, fortunately it is not as serious as we thought.”
