Barcelona boss Flick facing up to early midfield crisis

Incoming Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is already facing up to serious issues when it comes to his options in the middle of the park.

As much comes as his personnel options for pre-season, and potentially the start of the new campaign, continue to be reduced.

The headline news in Catalunya’s capital over the course of the last 24 hours has of course come in the form of the latest injury suffered by Pedri.

Forced into a departure from Spain’s Euro 2024 meeting with Germany during the opening exchanges, the 21-year-old is now expected to spend at least a month on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Pedri, though, is far from the only member of Barcelona’s midfield ranks to have set alarm bells ringing of late.

Also forced to pull out of the European Championships through injury was Frenkie de Jong.

Gavi, meanwhile, remains out of action long-term, owing to a serious knee injury suffered whilst on international duty late last year.

Not only that, but Fermín López is expected to be called up by Spain for the upcoming Olympic games, meaning he too will not be at the disposal of his club in the buildup to the new season getting underway.

Hansi Flick is yet to even take charge of his first training session as Barcelona manager.

But his concerns, already, are beginning to pile up…
