La Liga giants Barcelona have on Tuesday been afforded a potential boost on the financial front.
This comes by way of a fresh transfer offer for an out-of-favour member of the club’s defensive ranks.
The player in question? Mikayil Faye.
The name of stopper Faye has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several months now.
This comes owing to widespread speculation surrounding the future of the Senegalese.
Amid something of a logjam at the heart of defence in Barcelona’s first-team setup, Deco and co. have identified Faye’s sale as something of a market opportunity, with his failure to win over new Blaugrana head coach Hansi Flick having only seen the 20-year-old pushed further towards the exit door.
Held in high regard across the continent, a whole host of clubs have in turn expressed an interest in Faye’s signature, with Stade Rennais having recently gone as far as to table an opening offer.
On Tuesday, though, Rennes have been joined in the hunt by another leading outfit from Ligue 1.
As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Lille have entered the race to sign Mika Faye from Barcelona by sending an official bid!’
Barcelona, it is reiterated, are only willing to deprive themselves of Faye’s talents in a deal featuring both a buy-back and sell-on clause.
It now remains to be seen whether Lille or Rennes are willing to bow to such demands.
