Barcelona board members pushing Joan Laporta to sack Xavi

The situation behind the scenes at La Liga giants Barcelona has continued to descend ever further into chaos late on Thursday.

That’s according to Helena Condis of COPE, who has provided the latest on developments in the boardroom in Catalunya’s capital.

The subject of the managerial situation at Barcelona has of course returned to the forefront of the headlines in a major way over the course of the last few hours.

As much comes after confirmation was forthcoming that Joan Laporta’s absence from the travelling party for the Blaugrana’s La Liga meeting with Almería was down to a falling out with manager Xavi.

Barca’s president is understood to have been left furious by comments laid out by Xavi during his pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

As much saw the Spanish tactician simultaneously highlight the dire financial situation at the Camp Nou at present, and the need for reinforcements to his squad.

Laporta saw this as being in direct contrast to Xavi’s sentiments during the recent meeting between the parties to confirm his future for next season.

A whole host of claims have in turn begun to surface in the media, regarding the situation on the touchline in Catalunya.

And the latest, by way of the aforementioned COPE, will no doubt represent a serious source of concern for those eager for Xavi to stay put through the summer and beyond.

After first reiterating that Laporta and several board members were left angered by the latest comments of Barcelona’s headmaster, Helena Condis confirms that:

‘People close to Laporta keep telling him that Xavi cannot be the coach next year.’
