Barcelona and Tottenham in talks for Clément Lenglet

Tottenham and Barcelona have been in talks for weeks over a loan deal for defender Clément Lenglet, according to ESPN.

The France international is not part of manager Xavi Hernández’s plans for next season and Barça hope Spurs can convince the 27-year-old to move to north London.

Barça would prefer a permanent transfer for the player but would also agree to a loan move as they continue to try to reduce player salaries.

Tottenham are reportedly prepared to pay a large part of Lenglet’s salary if the deal goes through.

The Camp Nou outfit have already agreed to sign Denmark international and former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen on a free transfer, pushing Lenglet further down the pecking order of defensive options.

It is still unclear if Lenglet wants to move to the Premier League.

Fellow defenders Samuel Umtiti and Óscar Mingueza have also been told they are not in the club’s plans for next season.
