Atlético’s Antoine Griezmann ‘welcomes’ Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappé to Spain

Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann this evening sent a message to compatriot Kylian Mbappé, regarding his imminent arrival in La Liga.

The name of frontman Mbappé has of course taken its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines over the course of the last week.

This comes with it now common knowledge that the 25-year-old, for all intents and purposes, can be considered a Real Madrid player.

After last week informing Paris Saint-Germain of his decision not to renew his expiring contract beyond the summer, Mbappé has been locked in intense negotiations with Los Blancos ever since.

And as much are expected to bear imminent fruit, ensuring that another of world football’s standout performers will be plying his trade at the Santiago Bernabéu from next season on.

With Real Madrid having already reestablished themselves as Spanish football’s dominant force across the season to date, Mbappé’s arrival will, for obvious reasons, represent a source of concern for those in a position of power across the La Liga landscape.

As alluded to above, though, one individual who does not seem overly bothered by Real Madrid adding another ‘Galactico’ to their ranks, comes in the form Antoine Griezmann.

In fact, the Atlético Madrid star appears to be excited with the prospect of as much.

Speaking in an interview with Le Monde this week, frontman Griezmann was drawn on the subject of Mbappé’s incoming.

And the 32-year-old made use of the opportunity to send a ‘welcome’ message to his fellow countryman, stirred by the thought of lining out against Mbappé in the Madrid Derby.

“Mbappé? He’d be very welcome in Spain,” Griezmann began. “I’d be very happy to play derbies against him.”
