A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid on Thursday overtook Real Madrid counterpart Vinícius Jr. in a noteworthy statistical category.
The player in question? Julián Álvarez.
Diego Simeone’s Atlético were of course back in action this evening, welcoming Rayo Vallecano to Spain’s capital for a La Liga clash.
The aforementioned Álvarez for his part featured from the off in the fixture, and went on to play a starring role.
En route to a 3-0 triumph for Atléti, the Argentine rounded out the scoring, amid a solid all-round performance.
And as alluded to above, in the process, Álvarez overtook a counterpart at city rivals Real Madrid in the goals/assists charts this La Liga season.
As revealed by StatMuse, the World Cup winner, with 17, now has one more direct goal contribution than Vinícius Jr. in Spain’s top-flight in 2024/25.
Just five games remain for the latter to turn it around…
