A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid has this week been tipped for what would be a surprise mid-season departure from the club.
The player in question? José María Giménez.
Stopper Giménez, it is claimed, has piqued the attentions of those in the boardroom at Serie A high-flyers AC Milan.
Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements at the back, the Rossoneri have earmarked the Uruguayan as a leading target.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing Italian sources, Milan could even sanction a swoop for Giménez’s signature during the winter transfer window.
Any such move, however, is considered unlikely as things stand.
This comes with the 30-year-old, despite his ongoing injury woes, considered a key figure in the defensive setup at the Metropolitano by manager Diego Simeone and his staff.
In the case of being rebuffed in January, though, the San Siro brass could well return in the summer.
