Atlético Madrid plan to renew Diego Simeone’s contract despite poor results

Atlético Madrid are preparing to extend Diego Simeone’s contract with the club, report AS.

The Argentine coach’s current deal is valid until June 2024, but Los Colchoneros’ management are already preparing a contract a year-and-a-half in advance that could see Simeone stay at the club until June 2026.

Despite being knocked out of the Champions League and also losing must-win games, such as the one against Cádiz last night, Atlético Madrid’s board have full confidence in El Cholo and believe that he is the right person to continue building the project that will allow the side to compete with Europe’s elite.

Simeone is keen to stay at the Estadio Metropolitano and has made the winning of the Champions League with the club his primary goal.

El Cholo arrived to Atlético Madrid in 2011 and has won eight titles and has made it to two Champions League finals with the club.
