Two members of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are set to sit out the club’s upcoming meeting with Espanyol.
This comes amid confirmation that both Johnny Cardoso and Koke have been ruled out of the fixture owing to respective problems suffered this week.
In the case of the former, who featured from the off against Manchester United on Tuesday, Atlético have announced:
‘Johnny Cardoso is sidelined for the match against RCD Espanyol. He is not traveling with the rest of the squad due to acute gastroenteritis, which has prevented him from taking part in the last two training sessions.’
Midfield partner and Rojiblancos captain Koke, meanwhile, looks set for a potentially extended incoming spell on the sidelines. The Spaniard has been dealt an injury setback, described as follows by his club:
‘Koke has suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh. Our captain will undergo both physiotherapy sessions and re-adaptation work in the gym, and the evolution of his injury will determine his return to competition.’
Diego Simeone’s travelling squad to face Espanyol, as a result, is made up as follows:
