Atlético Madrid handed double injury boost before Madrid derby

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have on Monday been afforded an altogether timely double boost on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that two members of the club’s sidelined contingent have returned to group training.

The pair in question? Álex Baena and José María Giménez.

Both summer signing Baena and defender Giménez have of course been forced to sit out considerable chunks of Atlético’s season to date.

In the case of the former, Baena was forced to undergo surgery for a case of appendicitis early this month.

Giménez, meanwhile, has not taken to the pitch since the Club World Cup, owing to a hamstring injury.

As confirmed by Mundo Deportivo, though, on Monday, both played their part in a section of group training alongside the rest of Diego Simeone’s ranks.

Baena, in turn, could yet go on to feature in this weekend’s Madrid Derby, albeit with Giménez all but ruled out.
