The brass at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have identified Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy as a leading target on the transfer front.
This comes amid an ongoing search on the part of Diego Simeone and co. for experience and reliability both on the pitch and off.
Defender Mendy is for his part yet to take to the pitch this season, owing to injury.
Now considered the 3rd-choice left-back in Xabi Alonso’s squad, the understanding is that the 30-year-old could therefore be available at the right price in January.
And Atlético Madrid, it would appear, are keen to take advantage of this market opportunity.
As per a report from Fichajes, citing Nacional CAT, amid a lookout for fresh blood at the back, the board at the Metropolitano have earmarked Mendy as a genuine option.
A winter proposal to bring the Frenchman in is therefore being strongly considered.
It remains to be seen just how willing Real Madrid would be to do business with such a direct rival, however.
