Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid have today seen the club’s personnel options for their upcoming showdown with Barcelona reduced.
This comes amid confirmation that a key member of Atlético’s backline has been ruled out of Sunday’s showdown through injury.
The player in question? Mario Hermoso.
Stopper Hermoso, for his part, has played an integral role for the Rojiblancos across the season to date, featuring from the off in all but five of the club’s La Liga outings.
Not only that, but the Spaniard was in from the off once more in midweek, to keep alive his streak of starting every one of the club’s Champions League fixtures, too.
In the process of helping his side into the competition’s quarter-finals, however, Hermoso picked up a fitness problem.
As confirmed in a statement across Atléti’s website and social media platforms, the 28-year-old has suffered an injury to his left thigh.
Hermoso, as a result, has been ruled out of tomorrow’s meeting with Barcelona, set to ‘undergo rehabilitation pending evolution:
‘Mario Hermoso is suffering from a muscle injury in his left thigh, according to the tests the defender has undergone. He will begin physiotherapy sessions, will undergo rehabilitation training and is pending evolution.’
