La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have on Friday continued their ongoing war of words with arch rivals Real Madrid.
This of course comes fresh off a drama-filled meeting between the two sides yesterday evening.
The latest edition of the Madrid Derby was contested in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, with a place in the final of the Spanish Super Cup on the line.
Upon the final whistle bringing a close to proceedings, it was Xabi Alonso’s Real who emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result, to book a finale showdown with Barcelona.
And yet, it was developments on the sideline which stole the headlines post-match.
As much came after Diego Simeone aimed a fresh round of jibes in the direction of Vinícius Jr, giving rise to a heated scuffle involving the Brazilian, manager Xabi Alonso and the two sets of coaching staff.
Post-match, Alonso did not hold back in his criticism of Atléti counterpart Simeone, with Vinícius having also taken aim at the tactician on social media.
And as alluded to above, on Friday, the Rojiblancos have responded.
In a post across their own social media platforms, Atlético attempted to shift the blame back towards Vinícius, in writing:
‘It’s curious how much time some people spend analysing a reaction… and how little they devote to clarifying the provocation that gives rise to it. The *modus operandi*, yes, that’s a classic.’
