La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have made use of the opportunity to aim a less-than-subtle dig at arch rivals Real Madrid over the last 24 hours.
This comes after the latter were condemned to defeat on the continent.
Xabi Alonso’s troops made the trip to Anfield yesterday evening, to lock horns with Premier League holders Liverpool in a Champions League clash.
When all was said and done, Real Madrid found themselves on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline, owing to a solitary Alexis Mac Allister header.
And it was the Argentine’s name which the social media team at Atlético made use of to have some fun at their neighbours’ expense.
In a celebratory post on ‘X’ in the aftermath of their own 3-1 downing of Union Saint-Gilloise, the Rojiblancos unveiled photos of their three goalscorers on the evening.
This came alongside the caption ‘Tonight’s goalscorers’.
One of the images in question, though, was widened, to also showcase Kevin Mac Allister, Union star and namesake of Liverpool’s match-winning midfielder against Real Madrid:
