Athletic Club star Nico Williams has on Sunday sparked concern across the Spanish football landscape.
This comes after the winger was forced into a premature departure from Athletic’s latest La Liga outing.
The Basques were back in action earlier today, welcoming Valencia to Bilbao amid a challenging campaign to date for both clubs.
The aforementioned Nico featured from the off in the matchup, from his customary berth on the left flank.
En route to an eventual 1-0 defeat for the hosts, however, the 23-year-old pulled up with what appeared to be a muscular problem, before limping from the field of play.
On his way to the touchline, Nico was heard repeating ‘it can’t be, it can’t be’, suggesting a potentially serious injury.
Luis de la Fuente and his Spanish national team staff will now be holding their breath, desperate for a positive update on a player tipped to play a leading role for La Roja at this summer’s World Cup.
