Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simón on teammate Nico Williams: ‘A lot of lies have been said…’

The transfer saga involving Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and his potential departure continues to rumble on day after day, and is proving to be one of the biggest stories of this summer’s window.

Now, even Nico’s Bilbao teammates are speaking to the press and giving their take on how things are unfolding around the 22-year-old winger.

This has been revealed by Marca, who have reported on goalkeeper Unai Simón’s press conference, where he truthfully told things as he sees them.

The last month and a half has been complicated for him. A lot of lies have been said. Many things have been said that he himself did not know about,” the 27-year-old stopper said.

He then added some advice that he has for Williams for the remainder of the summer: “The only advice I give him is to enjoy the holidays, to be with his people, with his friends, and enjoy it. He’s a kid who deserves to rest and deserves respect from everyone.

Finally, Simón spoke about how not every Bilbao player can turn out to be a one-club man: “Nobody will say anything to him regardless of the decision he makes. We cannot expect everyone in the squad to be a Simón, De Marcos, Muniain or Sancet… everyone is different and we must respect his decision.”
