Arsenal’s Martín Zubimendi deal sparks trouble behind the scenes at Real Sociedad

Unforeseen drama is brewing behind the scenes at La Liga outfit Real Sociedad this week.

This comes amid the revelation that the Basque outfit reportedly owe a chunk of the fee secured for the sale of Martín Zubimendi to Arsenal to another club.

Specifically, La Real are said to be holding out on the payment of €1 million to Antiguoko, the midfielder’s youth side.

Speaking to the media this week (as cited by Mundo Deportivo), Antiguoko sporting director Roberto Montiel broke the situation down:

“Real Sociedad received the transfer fee for Martín Zubimendi from Arsenal but hasn’t paid us the five percent we’re entitled to according to the agreement. They’ll maintain their position of not paying us. That money is very important to us because we invest it in our academy.”

Montiel concluded:

“They are obsessed with crushing us at every level; they want us to become increasingly inferior.”

The alleged agreement between Real Sociedad and Antiguoko stipulates that, in the case of Zubimendi being sold, the latter were entitled to 5% of the fee, up to a maximum of €1 million.

Arsenal are understood to have forked over a sum in the region of €68 million to bring the Spanish international to north London over the summer.
