Arsenal deal Real Madrid a transfer blow

La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week been dealt a blow on the transfer front.

This comes amid confirmation that a member of the defensive ranks at Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal has agreed on the terms of a new contract.

The player in question? William Saliba.

Stopper Saliba has of course long been linked with a move to La Liga.

As much comes with those behind the scenes at the aforementioned Real Madrid having earmarked the Frenchman as a leading target to reinforce the club’s backline.

Ahead of the expiration of Saliba’s contract terms in the summer of 2027, Los Blancos are understood to have been plotting a cut-price swoop for his signature.

As alluded to above, however, this week, such plans have been thrown out the window.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘Arsenal centre-back William Saliba has agreed a new five-year contract with the club. The 24-year-old’s new deal is expected to be signed in the coming days.’
