Antoine Griezmann scored in Atlético Madrid’s 3-1 win over Villarreal in La Liga on Sunday night.
The Frenchman, who has been exceptional so far this season, scored the all-important second goal of the night at the Cívitas Metropolitano after Villarreal had taken the lead through Spain forward Gerard Moreno.
Griezmann is now Atletico’s second highest goalscorer of all time, scoring his 169th goal for the club.
Samuel Lino scored Atlético’s third goal late on to seal the win against the Yellow Submarine, who parted ways with head coach Pacheta this week.
When asked by Movistar+ after the game about Diego Simeone’s new deal at the club, Griezmann responded by saying, “He’s the perfect manager for this club. It’s great that they have come to an agreement and now it’s my turn!”
Earlier this week, Atlético announced a new deal for Simeone until 2027.
Atlético have now won six games in a row at home as they continue to chase league leaders Girona. They face Mallorca after the upcoming international break.
