‘Amazing’: Spain boss De la Fuente claims Barcelona is underappreciated

Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has moved to reveal his appreciation for the talents of an oft-criticised Barcelona star.

The player in question? Ferran Torres.

Frontman Ferran is for his part fresh off another starring display on the international front.

En route to Spain putting Georgia to the sword by four goals to nil in a World Cup qualifier, the former Manchester City man notched a goal and an assist.

This proved enough to guide Ferran, at just 25 years of age, into La Roja’s list of top-10 goalscorers of all-time.

All told, across the season to date, the versatile attacker has found the net nine times, proving himself a solid contributor in the final third at club and international level alike.

And yet, Ferran often finds himself singled out for heavy criticism.

Many remain of the opinion that the forward is not of the required technical standard to play such a prominent role for a club with the stature of Barcelona.

One individual who evidently does not share such a viewpoint, though, is the aforementioned Luis de la Fuente.

Drawn on Ferran’s latest achievement with his country early this week, Spain boss De la Fuente made use of the opportunity to heap praise on his attacking star:

“I spoke with Ferran Torres a few days ago. I’ve known him since he was 16 years old. He played with me in U18, U19, and U21.. I know him well. He played as a right winger, left winger, and striker, and he performs wonderfully. He has great versatility. His numbers are amazing. Perhaps we focus on other players and don’t appreciate what our players do, especially Ferran. He has unusual numbers, excellent performance, and wherever he played, he delivered a strong performance, and very often a wonderful one. He is a very important player for us.”
