Real Madrid head coach Álvaro Arbeloa has moved to back his players, in the aftermath of their damaging defeat on Saturday.
Los Blancos were of course back in action earlier this evening, in a La Liga meeting with RCD Mallorca.
When all was said and done at Son Moix, the visitors found themselves condemned to the wrong side of a 2-1 result, after Éder Militão’s late equaliser was made to count for nothing by Vedat Muriqi in injury time.
The result means that, if Barcelona manage to get the better of Atlético Madrid tonight, the Blaugrana will surge a full seven points clear atop the table.
Post-match on Saturday, a whole host of Real Madrid’s players were, in turn, singled out for heavy criticism on the part of the club’s fans.
As alluded to above, however, one individual of the opinion that such frustrations are misplaced is none other than Álvaro Arbeloa.
Drawn on his side’s latest disappointing defeat, Los Merengues’ headmaster was quick to insist:
“The defeat is on me. It’s 1000% my fault. We didn’t do today what we trained for all week. We didn’t create chances well, we lacked patience, we lacked energy, and we lacked ideas.”
