A pair of clubs, one from Spain, and one Italy, have this evening issued public messages of support to Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr.
The name of wide-man Vinícius has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in not only Spain, but across all of Europe on Monday.
Whilst speaking in a press conference ahead of Brazil’s friendly meeting with La Roja, Vinícius was faced with questions about the racism to which he has been subjected across his time in La Liga.
And, in his response, the 23-year-old’s emotions understandably got the better of him, Vinícius breaking down in a flood of tears whilst admitting that:
“I’ve been watching this for a long time, and every time I feel sadder, I have less and less will to play.
“I’m sorry. I just want to play football, do everything for my club and my family, never see black people suffering. I’ve thought about quitting.”
Messages of support, in turn, have quickly poured in for Vinícius, as fans, players and neutrals across the globe move to remind the Brazilian that he maintains the backing of the masses.
And, as alluded to above, a short time ago, such supporters were joined by a pair of high-profile clubs.
First up came Real Madrid’s La Liga rivals, Cádiz, who, in a post across the club’s social media platforms, unveiled the following message:
‘In the fight against racism, there are no colors. We’re with you, @vinijr’
And a similar message has since been pushed by Serie A giants AC Milan, who reposted a series of photos of Vinícius from Brazil’s latest press conference, alongside the caption:
‘Together we will win.’
