The numbers behind the stellar performance produced by Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong in the club’s latest outing have come to the fore online.
Midfielder De Jong was for his part of course restored to starting duties by boss Hansi Flick on Saturday evening.
This came as Barcelona made the trip to Villarreal, for a crunch La Liga clash.
And en route to an eventual 2-0 Blaugrana triumph, the Dutchman provided a reminder of his world-class engine room abilities.
Whilst it was the likes of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal who stole the headlines courtesy of their respective efforts in front of goal, Barca’s performance flowed through De Jong.
The former Ajax man was in top form on both sides of the ball, breaking up play, launching attacks courtesy of purposeful runs and passes, and even laying on an assist.
All told, across the 90 minutes at La Cerámica, De Jong managed all of the following:
- 109 touches
- 94/97 passes completed
- 5/5 long balls completed
- 4 key passes
- 1 big chance created
- 1 assist
- 2/2 tackles won
- 3 clearances
- 6 recoveries
