7/8 duels won, 103 completed passes: Barcelona star shines in new role again vs Alavés

Barcelona star Gerard Martín on Saturday continued to showcase his worth and value to manager Hansi Flick.

This came courtesy of his performance in the Blaugrana’s latest outing.

Barcelona were of course back in action a short time ago, welcoming Deportivo Alavés to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, the reigning Spanish champions emerged on the right side of a 3-1 result.

And Martín proved himself one of the stars of the show…

With Ronald Araújo unavailable and Eric García slotting in at right-back, Martín, naturally a left-back, was tasked with playing as a central defender for the evening.

And the Spaniard, not for the first time this season, did not look at all out of place in his new role…

In fact, Martín thoroughly impressed on both sides of the ball, stout in his defending, and neat and tidy on the ball.

Such efforts are aptly highlighted by the statistics, with the 23-year-old, over the course of the 90 minutes on Saturday, having managed the following:

  • 127 touches
  • 103 accurate passes (93%)
  • 4/5 tackles won
  • 7/8 ground duels won
  • 5 clearances
