7.5 match rating – Barcelona star gets his loan spell underway with positive debut

A member of the loan army at La Liga champions Barcelona on Sunday got his latest stint away from Catalunya’s capital up and running in encouraging fashion.

The player in question? Marc-André ter Stegen.

Goalkeeper Ter Stegen is for his part of course fresh off securing a 2nd successive temporary move away from Barcelona. After spending the 2nd half of last season plying his trade with Girona, the German has since taken his talents to the Eredivisie with Ajax for the duration of 2026/27.

Ter Stegen, in turn, was in from the off on Sunday, as Ajax got their league campaign underway courtesy of a trip to PEC Zwolle. And as alluded to above, it proved to be a positive day’s work all told for the 34-year-old.

En route to an opening day three-point haul, Ter Stegen managed a clean sheet in a 2-0 triumph for his new club.

Over the course of the 90 minutes, as per statisticians Sofascore, the shot-stopper managed the following on his way to a 7.5 match rating:

  • 41 touches
  • 31/35 accurate passes (89%)
  • 12 recoveries
  • 2 saves
