An impressive six members of the first-team setup at Barcelona have secured for themselves nominations for the honour of being named in the La Liga Team of the Season.
As much, of course, comes despite Barca having surrendered their Spanish top-flight crown.
Should the Blaugrana fail to get the better of Girona this coming weekend, and Real Madrid manage to put Cádiz to the sword, Carlo Ancelotti’s Blancos will be officially crowned La Liga champions.
And yet, amid what has proven a difficult campaign to date in Catalunya’s capital, a number of headline members of Xavi’s squad have continued to perform at an altogether high level.
As much is reflected in the official La Liga Team of the Season nominee shortlist, unveiled on Thursday.
Starting at the back, both Ronald Araújo and João Cancelo, despite their respective recent woes, have been nominated.
Moving into midfield, summer Barcelona addition lkay Gündoğan sees his superb debut campaign in Spain rewarded, with Frenkie de Jong’s injury woes not enough to keep the Dutchman out, either.
And finally, in the attacking third, breakthrough sensation Lamine Yamal is amongst the nominees for a place in the frontline, with Robert Lewandowski’s 16 goals enough for his inclusion, too.
