Four up-and-coming members of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona have played their part in something of a shift in the club’s transfer strategy for the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Sunday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
It is of course now common knowledge across all of Spain that Barcelona’s priority with a view to next season comes in the form of the signing of a new attacker, or even two.
This marks a major change, after the Blaugrana, heading into the summer, made clear that their no.1 focus was the addition of a deep-lying midfielder.
So, what has changed?
An insight into as much has on Sunday been provided.
As per a report from Sport, the reasons are many. First off, new boss Hansi Flick does not see it as a necessity to add a traditional ‘pivot’ to a position which he intends to fill with two players.
On top of this, the money left over from the Nico Williams operation will be little, with the intention currently to put such funds towards Dani Olmo.
And finally comes the performances of Barca’s youngsters in pre-season:
‘The good impression that Hansi Flick is getting from the young players from the youth team – Marc Bernal, Marc Casadó, Noah Darvich, Guille Fernández – has caused Barça to modify its roadmap in the search for a midfielder with deployment or high involvement in the tasks of containment,’ it is concluded.
It is not at all out of the question that Barcelona, before the summer is out, could sign a new midfielder, but for the time being, as much is no longer considered an absolute must.
