Two members of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid suffered fitness setbacks on Saturday.
That’s according to Blancos insider Guillermo Rai of The Athletic.
Real Madrid of course marked their return to action a short time ago, making the short trip across Spain’s capital for a derby showdown with Diego Simeone’s Atlético.
Los Merengues headed into the matchup boasting a flawless record across the season to date, with seven wins from seven to their name.
When all was said and done at the Metropolitano, however, Xabi Alonso’s troops were brought crashing back down to earth.
This came by way of a deserved 5-2 defeat.
And yet, as alluded to above, the eventual result proved far from the only source of concern for Real Madrid on Saturday.
In addition, the La Liga table-toppers saw two defenders suffer injuries.
The first was noted at the interval, when Éder Militão failed to reemerge for the 2nd-half owing to an ankle issue.
And as since confirmed by the aforementioned Guillermo Rai, Dani Carvajal joined his defensive partner in picking up a knock in the derby:
‘Carvajal will also undergo tests tomorrow because (of) a problem in the soleus (right leg).’
