Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham knocked off Pichichi perch by Girona hitman

The race for the Pichichi award has on Saturday kicked up another notch.

This comes with a new outright leader having emerged atop the La Liga top-scorer ladder.

As close followers of Spanish football will be aware, Real Madrid standout Jude Bellingham has long boasted the title of the Pichichi frontrunner.

As much comes amid what has proven a remarkable debut campaign in the colours of Los Blancos, culminating in 16 league goals to date.

A recent dry spell – Bellingham has not found the net for over two months – however, has opened the door for some of La Liga’s sharpshooters to reestablish themselves in the running for the prestigious award.

And, as alluded to above, this afternoon, one such individual managed to overtake the Englishman atop the pile.

The player in question? Artem Dovbyk.

After opening the scoring in Girona’s meeting with Atlético Madrid, frontman Dovbyk took his tally for the term to a none-too-shabby 17 goals, one more than Bellingham.

It now remains to be seen if the latter can hit back in Real Madrid’s meeting with RCD Mallorca at Son Moix on Saturday night.
