Zlatan Ibrahimović: Pep Guardiola’s ego could get in the way at Manchester City

Zlatan Ibrahimović is continuing his recovery from cruciate ligament surgery on his left knee and is expected to be back in action in early 2023. In an interview with Canal Plus, the Swedish striker discussed Erling Haaland, Pep Guardiola and Kylian Mbappé.

On Erling Haaland

“I like him a lot, he is a very intelligent player, and he doesn’t do things that are not within his reach. He waits in front of goal and scores. He reminds me of players like Inzaghi, Trezeguet and Vieri. In fact, he’s a new version of the three of them,” Ibrahimović said in words transcribed by Marca.

On Pep Guardiola and Haaland

“Can Guardiola improve him? It depends on his ego. If he allows himself to be bigger than him or not. He didn’t allow me or others to do so.”

On Kylian Mbappé

The veteran striker gave his opinion on Kylian Mbappé’s decision to stay at PSG and believes it wasn’t the best thing for the French forward. “If Mbappé was right to stay in Paris – for who, for him? No. For PSG maybe yes. He put himself in the position that matters most to the club and the club gave him the keys to everything.”
