Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema missed his side’s 1-0 win over Real Valladolid on Saturday night and will not play against Atalanta in the Champions League unless fully fit.

Head coach Zinedine Zidane will only name Benzema in his travelling party for Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg if the Frenchman can first prove his fitness.

“We will see. I can’t tell you right now. We are not going to risk him. If he’s not ready, he won’t be used,” Zidane said.

Casemiro’s second half header was enough to hand Madrid all three points against Valladolid and they now find themselves just three points off cross-city rivals Atlético Madrid at the top of the table having played one game more.
