Zinedine Zidane: “Lucas Vázquez has Real Madrid in his heart.”

Speaking to Movistar after Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory away to Inter in the Champions League, head coach Zinedine Zidane admitted that Lucas Vázquez could be offered a new contract with Los Blancos.

The 29-year-old’s current contract expires in 2021, but Zidane believes that a new one should be on it’s way to the versatile Spaniard.

He always gives everything for us. I have always valued him as a player and what he gives to us on the pitch. Now he is having the opportunity to show us what he is all about. He was a youth team player for us and has Real Madrid in his heart. I’m happy for him and for the team. He is an important player and the club knows that. I think it will happen and he will renew.”

Vázquez played in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win in Italy and looked as assured as ever, after a recent successful run in the side. He provided the cross to set up substitute Rodrygo for Madrid’s second goal of the night after Eden Hazard converted an early penalty from the spot. The Spain international has showed his versatility by also featuring at right-back this season, due to injuries suffered to Dani Carvajal, Nacho and Álvaro Odriozola.
