The tension between Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo and all associated with Portuguese football has on Wednesday continued to escalate.
This comes after the veteran frontman’s sister took to social media, to take firm aim at the country’s supporters and more.
Ronaldo has of course dominated the headlines across world football over the course of the day to date. After Portugal boss Jorge Jesus moved to play down reports of mounting tension between the parties stemming from CR7’s lack of minutes against Norway earlier this week, the latter confirmed the opposite.
In an official post released across his social media platforms, Ronaldo announced his immediate departure from his country’s camp for the Nations League.
And as alluded to above, one of the 41-year-old’s family members has since followed up with a scathing release of her own…
Taking to her Instagram page on Wednesday evening, Elma Aveiro, Ronaldo’s sister, pointed the finger of blame for the situation at hand at everyone but her sibling, sniping:
‘CR7 deserved more respect. The national team deserved more structure. Portuguese journalism deserved more competence and less speculation.
‘As for the Portuguese people, well… they don’t deserve to have the best of anything. We are envious, disdainful, ignorant, and we deserve to return to the mediocrity we always had in football before CR7.
‘Thank you for everything, CR7! You deserved more!’
