Xavi’s longest unbeaten run as manager

Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Villarreal on Sunday saw Xavi go on his longest ever unbeaten run as a manager.

At Barça, he went 15 games unbeaten between January and April last year, a run that was equalled with last week’s 3-0 victory over Sevilla.

That run consisted of 11 wins and four defeats but the narrow win at La Cerámica on Sunday brought his current record to 14 wins and two draws (16 games), and one of those draws was against Real Betis in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final that was later won by Barça on penalties.

The Catalan coach can beat his current record when his Blaugrana side face Manchester United in the Europa League at Camp Nou on Thursday. Erik ten Hag’s United have, however, only lost once since 11 November 2022.

Barcelona will play United over two legs as they look to advance in the Europa League. The win against Villarreal saw the Camp Nou outfit move 11 points ahead of Real Madrid in 2nd place.
