Xavi responds to Luis Enrique’s claim that he ‘represents Barcelona’s style better’

Barcelona head coach Xavi has this evening provided his response to the head-turning comments laid out by Paris Saint-Germain counterpart Luis Enrique on Tuesday afternoon.

PSG boss Enrique, of course, sparked widespread discussion across Spain earlier today.

As much came upon the ex-Blaugrana tactician directing what has since been widely labelled as a dig at the aforementioned Xavi.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League quarter-final meeting between the clubs on Wednesday, Enrique stated outright that:

“I represent Barça’s style better than Xavi. It’s not a matter of opinion.”

Facing the press himself a short time later, it therefore came as little surprise when Enrique’s comments were put to Barcelona’s headmaster himself.

Xavi, though, opted to take the high road, insisting that both he and his fellow countryman are ‘looking for the same thing’ when it comes to the footballing philosophies of their sides:

“Luis Enrique saying that he represents Barça’s style better than me? That’s Luis Enrique for you. We are both looking for the same thing when it comes to our teams.”
