Xavi on his future: “I have the confidence of the president, of Deco, of the players”

Barcelona manager Xavi has provided an update on his future at a press conference ahead of their La Liga clash with Almería on Wednesday evening.

Xavi has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks due to some poor performances and results, which has seen them lose ground on Girona and Real Madrid in La Liga. The Catalan club are without a win in their last three games in all competitions and this has piled even more pressure on the Spanish manager.

The two biggest defeats this season came against arch-rivals Real Madrid and Girona. In December, the Blaugrana club were dismantled by Girona 4-2 at home, which left supporters questioning the efforts of Xavi’s men. While, a late El Clasico defeat in October was never going to be received well.

However, there is some sympathy for the 43-year-old head coach, who has had to deal with numerous injuries to key players such as Gavi, which has ultimately halted some of the excellent progress his side made last season. As reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Xavi remains calm over his future as he believes he has full support from everyone at the club, but admits that clarity over his future may not be reached until the end of the season.

He said: “I’m very calm. I have the confidence of the president, of Deco, of the players.

“At the end of the season we will see.”
