Xavi: “Neither ‘Auba’ nor Memphis have left and tomorrow we can use them.”

In the pre-match interview prior to Barcelona’s game against Real Sociedad, Xavi discussed the future of some his players in his squad, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay.

During the interview, which appeared on Sport, the Barcelona coach elaborated on the situation of his two forwards:

“There is a market that ends on the 31st of August and we will see what will happen. I’m counting on them tomorrow. They could prove to be important, but we’ll see the circumstances. We will evaluate. Neither ‘Auba’ nor Memphis have left and tomorrow we can use them. We’ll have to see how the squad looks. The priority is to sign Koundé.”

Due to La Liga regulations, Barcelona are yet to register Jules Koundé as a member of their squad:

“We are waiting, there are a couple of days still to go. His registration is on ‘stand by’. I spoke to him and told him what I wanted. He has a lot of class and experience with Sevilla. He is a great footballer and has leadership qualities. In Barça you have to prove it every game, it’s a test. If he has the mentality and withstands the pressure, he will be a great player for the present and the future.”

Xavi also commented on Frenkie de Jong’s situation at the club:

“The player should be focused on football. You are preparing with a player one week and he could leave the next. It is not the ideal scenario.”
