Xavi: Lionel Messi move to Barcelona up in the air

Once again, Xavi Hernández has made no secret of his desire for Lionel Messi to return to FC Barcelona.

The Blaugrana coach was asked about the situation with a month and a bit to go before the Argentinian’s contract expires at Paris Saint-Germain.

“What would I say to the Barça fans? Well, it’s up in the air, it depends on a lot of things. I can say little more. He’s a spectacular player, I’m friends with him and we’ll see if it happens or not. It will depend a lot on his intentions,” said Xavi in words reported by Mundo Deportivo ahead of Tuesday’s league game against Real Valladolid.

Barcelona need to sell this summer to be able to make the additions that Xavi has asked for. The former midfielder is also keen on adding Real Sociedad player Martín Zubimendi to his midfield to replace Sergio Busquets, who is set to leave Camp Nou.

Messi staying quiet

Messi is keeping quiet for the moment without giving any clues about his decision, which, as his father warned in a statement a fortnight ago, will not take place until the end of the Ligue 1 season.

The Ligue 1 campaign ends on 3 June with PSG on the brink of becoming champions again.
