Xavi deal not over the line yet – Marca

According to Marca, Barcelona have not yet made Xavi’s appointment official because they believe that there is still no agreement with Al Sadd.

The Qatari club, who know they are in control of the situation, came out on social media earlier on Friday to confirm an agreement with Barcelona and the departure of the head coach.

The issue is reportedly to do with Xavi’s €5 million release clause.

The club’s CEO Turki Al-Ali said: “The Al Sadd administration has agreed on Xavi’s move to Barcelona after the payment of the release clause stipulated in the contract. We’ve agreed on cooperation with Barcelona in the future. Xavi is an important part of Al-Sadd’s history and we wish him success.”

Al Sadd’s statement is now seen as a way of putting pressure on Barça to pay for Xavi, something the Blaugrana have always been reluctant to do.
