Barcelona have 85 points and are already La Liga champions, and head coach Xavi could be on course for the best first full season for a coach since 1995-96.
Luis Enrique is the coach who achieved the most points in his first full season at the helm. The Asturian collected 94 points and also won the league. With three wins and a draw, Xavi would break this record, report Marca.
Ernesto Valverde also made a successful start to his time in La Liga at Camp Nou. He managed to pick up just one point less than the Asturian, 93, in the 2017-18 season, and was crowned champion.
Sir Bobby at Barcelona
Third place goes to Sir Bobby Robson. You have to look back to the 1996-97 season when the former Newcastle boss got 90 points. Barcelona finished second that season.
The coaches Xavi could already overtake tomorrow against Real Sociedad are Tata Martino and Pep Guardiola. The two coaches finished the season with 87 points, two more than the number of points the Blaugrana have at the time of writing.
The Argentinian, in 2013-14, finished second in the standings, while the Catalan tactician, in 2008-09, came first. A win tomorrow would put the former midfielder in fourth place in this particular ranking with three games to go before the end of the season.
As of today, Xavi has already surpassed the records of many of his predecessors. Ronald Koeman, in the 2020-21 season, had 79 points and was third in the table. Frank Rijkaard, in his first full year, had 72 in 2003-04 and Louis van Gaal had 74 in 1997-98.
Xavi now has four games to reach 95 points and, in doing so, would overtake Luis Enrique.
