Xavi admits to ‘mistakes’ during time as Barcelona boss: ‘After Sergio Busquets’ departure…’

Former Barcelona head coach Xavi has provided an insight into one tactical mistake for which he feels he was responsible during his time in the Camp Nou dugout.

Xavi, of course, spent two-and-a-half years overseeing matters from the touchline at Barcelona.

The Blaugrana icon was installed as manager late in 2021, before ultimately being sent on his way to make room for Hansi Flick last summer.

Xavi, along the way, secured a La Liga title, as well as the Spanish Super Cup.

Prior to being dismissed by Joan Laporta and co, though, the ex-midfielder was the recipient of regular criticism, for his personnel and tactical decisions alike.

And as alluded to above, this weekend, Xavi has opened up on one such call which he feels he got wrong.

Speaking during an interview with France Football, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, the 45-year-old explained:

“I admit that I made some mistakes in management at Barça. Sergio Busquets’ departure forced us to rethink our style of play, so I opted for a midfield with three attacking players… but it wasn’t always effective.”
