Worker dies at Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou construction site

Tragedy struck during the ongoing renovation works at La Liga champions Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium on Friday.

As confirmed by a number of outlets across Spain, a 54-year-old worker died after being involved in an accident in Catalunya’s capital earlier today.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing a statement released by the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police):

‘The worker died from a fall while working on the renovation of FC Barcelona ‘s stadium. After receiving notification of the workplace accident, several Mossos units, along with the Investigation Unit and the Medical Emergency System (SEM), went to the scene, but were unable to save the worker’s life.’

The man involved is understood to have been painting on a raised platform when tragedy struck.

This is the first fatal incident to have been reported since renovation works were kickstarted at the Spotify Camp Nou all the way back in the summer of 2023.
