‘Wishing death on my family’ – Barcelona star Cancelo reveals disgusting post-PSG abuse

Barcelona star João Cancelo has this weekend provided an insight into the extent of the abuse both he and his family have been subjected to in the aftermath of the club’s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona were of course sent packing from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage earlier this week.

As much came owing to a 4-1 home drubbing at the hands of the aforementioned PSG.

Cancelo, for his part, played an unwanted role in as much, giving away a needless 2nd-half penalty to allow the visitors to Catalunya to edge ahead in the tie.

The days since have seen the majority of the post-match criticism directed at teammate Ronald Araújo for his dismissal inside the half-hour mark at Montjuïc.

But Cancelo has not been spared, either, with the on-loan Manchester City man today having opened up on just how harrowing an ordeal he and his loved ones have been subjected to over the course of the last 72 hours.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Cancelo revealed that his social media accounts have been flooded with sickening abuse, to the extent of some wishing death upon his unborn daughter:

“People say all sorts,” the 29-year-old began.

“There are comments on Instagram wishing death upon my daughter who’s not even been born yet. They would not say it to my face, because we would have a problem, but in the comments they write what they want.

“They’re offensive to my partner, my daughter, our unborn baby. It’s a cruel world and you have to know how to live with it. I know how to, but I just don’t know what to say anymore.

“Wishing death upon a baby is really serious. People don’t think about the person behind the footballer they see on the television. We are humans, too. We are just the same.”
