Will Real Madrid play against Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine?

For the third consecutive season, Real Madrid will face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team will not play in Kyiv this year due to the war between Ukraine and Russia, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Shakhtar will play their Champions League matches outside their country. The Ukrainian side will play their matches in Warsaw. Legia Warsaw have loaned the stadium to the Ukrainian club.

The agreement between the two clubs specifies that 5% of the ticket proceeds will go to the Legia Foundation, which has been helping victims of the war in Ukraine.

Shakhtar will for the first time play their European matches outside Ukraine. Until now, the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv was the venue for their European matches.

In today’s Champions League, Los Blancos were drawn in Group F alongside Shakhtar, Celtic and RB Leipzig.

After winning their 14th Champions League against Liverpool earlier this summer, Ancelotti’s men will have their eye on a 15th.
